California Beauty Haul

For my week off of University, my family and I went down to sunny Palm Springs for a well deserved holiday and while I was there I, of course, did some beauty shopping. I hit Ulta as well as Walgreens, Rite Aid and CVS. I didn't have much money to spend (and the Canadian dollar is in the dumps right now) so I only picked up a few items but I thought I would share what I got and give some first impressions.

Lorac Pro Palette
I've been lusting after this palette for years and I finally picked it up. It really is as good as people say. I love the Lorac Pro shadow formulation, as it's so pigmented and buttery. The shades in this palette are also beautiful. I'm working on a full review post to go up soon.

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour in Seduction
This is a lovely nude matte lip colour. I picked this up because I was looking for a nude to wear on my trip and I wanted to try the formula. It dries matte but still feels comfortable.

Milani Powder Blush in 08 Tea Rose
I love the Milani baked blushes and the flower design on this blush was just too cute to pass up. The blush is nicely pigmented and applies nicely to the cheeks, I'm very happy with it.

Nonie Creme Colour Prevails Eyeshadow/Liner Duo
I hadn't heard of this brand before so I wanted to give something a try. The colours in this two in one shadow/liner looked really pretty so I picked it up. So far the formula seems a little crumbly but I'll have to spend some time working with it to see how good it is.

It's a 10 Miracle leave-in plus Keratin
I've heard people talk about this hair product before and I've always wanted to give it a try so when I saw this mini size I just had to have it. After only one use it left my hair super shiny and soft. I can't wait to use it some more.

Jordana Fabu Liner in Black
This is a repurchase for me. I love how matte this liner is and it's easy to apply. Plus it's really cheap. I already know it's a favourite so I'm glad to have it back in my collection.

Swatches- Revlon Lipcolour in Seduction, Milani Blush in Tea Rose, Nonie Creme Colour Prevails Eyeshadow/Liner Duo in Mocha and Purple
Overall my trip was totally amazing. It was a little weird to go from -40C to +31C  on the day we arrived and I already miss the warm weather but it's also nice to be home.
Here are just a couple pictures from the trip.

January 2016 Favourites

My favourites for the month of January include some rediscovered products as well as some new ones. You'll also probably notice a theme of hydration here. Is anyone else totally sick and tired of winter yet?

Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Crave
These Urban Decay liners have the best formulation in my opinion. Really creamy and easy to apply, and once dry, they won't budge. I hadn't worn much pencil liner in the last few months but for some reason I found myself reaching for this dark matte brown a lot this month.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette
I will admit to owning a LOT of eyeshadow palettes so sometimes I have palettes that don't get as much love as they deserve. That's what happened with my Naked 2 palette. It got pushed to the back of my drawer and I didn't use it for months, but it's back! I seriously love this palette! I've been reaching for it most days. I have a full review with swatches here.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
January had more than one day that was -40C which just destroys my skin. This has been my savior. Before bed I literally apply this head to toe on all my dry patches and I wake up with totally hydrated skin. I can't recommend it enough. I even got my whole family hooked on this stuff.

Zoeva 126 Luxe Cheek Finish Brush
This Zoeva brush has replaced my Zoeva 127 Luxe Sheer Cheek as my favourite blush brush. It's so soft and applies the perfect amount of blush.

Charlotte Tilbury Very Victoria Lipstick
My first luxury lipstick. Besides the packaging, which is so stunning I don't even have words, the actually lipstick is really great too. It's a matte formula that feels comfortable and long lasting. The shade is also a really nice brownish nude.

Nivea Lip Butter in Raspberry Rose Kiss
Back to blaming the cold weather, my lips have been dry and hurting this month so this Nivea lip butter has been really soothing and moisturizing. Plus it's light pink tinted and smells like rasperries which is a nice plus.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
I have been using this mascara all month and I'm still making up my mind about it but I think I like it, so I've put it in my favourites. I'll report back (probably in an empties post) about my final feelings.

Origins Gin-Zing Moisturizer
Finally I've been using a new daily moisturizer. This one is thin which feels really lovely to apply. I also like the orange scent which helps wake me up in the morning. It moisturizes my skin nicely so I'm quite happy with it!

What were your favourites in January?

If you guys haven't read my last post about temporary changes in my blogging schedule you can check it out here. Also make sure you're following me on Bloglovin (click the heart button in my sidebar). I'll follow back and the faster I get to 300, the faster the Giveaway starts.

I owe you an Explanation (and upcoming Giveaway info!)

To my Followers,

I'm not sure if any of you have noticed but I have not posted much this month. I want to explain why and how that will affect my blog going forward. This is more of a personal blog post so if you're not interested in what's happening with me and my blog you can skip to the end where I have information about future giveaways.

First off a little about me. I haven't shared much of my personal history on my blog because I like to keep it all about makeup and beauty so for those of you who don't know, I'm currently in my 4th year of University. I'm doing my honours degree (pre-masters) in Sociology and this year I am working on my thesis which is a 40-50 page paper I need to complete to graduate. That being said, I am extremely busy and totally overwhelmed. I have also had a few personal and academic setbacks in that I was not getting along with my thesis advisor. All this is to say, my blog has kind of been put on the back burner which I feel terrible about.

I love my blog, I love posting twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays, and I love coming up with new blog post ideas. I am just finding myself without the time to be able to commit to making good posts. But no worries, Makeup By Meggy is not going anywhere! Whenever I find the time I will try to post, it just won't be as consistent as it used to be. Once my thesis is done it will be back to posting like normal. I would greatly appreciate your patience with me as I try to balance school and my blog.

Giveaways!

I will be doing a giveaway at the end of April (my thesis is due April 7!) to thank everyone for continuing to follow my blog as it goes through this little rough patch. I haven't bought the item yet (I have a few ideas) but if you have any suggestions I would be glad to hear them.
I am also still doing a giveaway as soon as I reach 300 followers on Bloglovin. (As a side note I'm also following back everyone who follows me on Bloglovin). That's TWO GIVEAWAYS! So make sure you and all your friends are following so we can reach that 300 mark. You can follow me here or by clicking the heart button on my sidebar.

Thanks guys!
XO Meggy
