My Hair Care Routine

I haven't talked much about hair care on my blog before. That's mostly because I'm not very diligent with my hair care routine. I'll often choose to spend my time getting ready doing my makeup or picking a cute outfit and I'll forgo styling my hair, instead leaving it natural. However there are a few hair products that I swear by and I thought I would share.

I'll start with my hair type. I have medium length, fine, brown hair. I've never coloured it and I rarely use heat (my fine hair air dries quite quickly). My hair varies between straight and wavy whenever it pleases despite what I have planned for it.

Shampoo and Conditioner
I've just started using the Dove Advanced Hair Series- quench Absolute for dry, wavy, curly hair. I've been loving it. It makes my hair really shiny and soft. The shampoo lathers up nicely which I always enjoy and the conditioner isn't too thick so it doesn't weigh my fine hair down. Strangely my hair dries straighter when I use this shampoo compared to other shampoos not specifically for wavy hair.

Leave-in Conditioner
I have been using this Sebastian Professional Laminates Detanging Milk for years now. I just spray it through my wet hair and brush it through. It smells really nice and it leaves my hair super soft and shiny and most importantly it helps me get a brush through my fine, tangly hair.

Heat Protector
On the rare occasion that I blow dry or curl my hair, I'll use the TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray to protect my hair. It smells nice, it comes out in a fine mist and it leaves my hair shiny and smooth all while keeping my hair from being damaged.

Hair Brush
I have very tangly hair due to it being so fine. Brushing my hair was always a chore I hated because it usually hurt and took a long time. Everything has changed since I got the Tangle Teezer. It gets out tangles and knots in seconds. It's seriously magical and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Dry Shampoo
I wash my hair every other day so for second day hair, I use Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo to make my hair look less oily. The smell isn't too over powering and as long as you're careful with the distance you're spraying from, you won't end up with white in your hair. It also provides lots of volume.

Texturizing Spray
This is an expensive little product so for special occasions I'll use a some of this Orbe Dry Texturizing Spray. It gives a crazy amount of volume and texture. It's amazing!

Hairspray
As I rarely curl my hair, I don't often use hairspray but I thought I should include it anyway because finding a hairspray I actually like has been a hard task. I use the TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Waves Ultra Brushable Hold Hairspray. I hate hairsprays that make my hair feel hard and crunchy so this one is ideal for me. The hold isn't anything too special but it leaves my hair feeling naturally movable.

What hair products do you swear by?

I have many, many more hair products, these are just the ones I use most often, so let me know if you'd like to see a hair product collection post.

Bedside Beauty

I wanted to do a post about beauty products I often forget to post about, but use daily. The beauty products that sit on my bedside table.
 Zoella Beauty Wonder Hand
I, like a lot of people I think, like to mositurize my hands before bed. My current favourite hand lotion is this one by Zoella. Not only is the packaging super cute, but the lotion is quick to sink in, doesn't leave my hands too sticky or greasy and it smells lovely.

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body ButterCream
I know I've talked a lot about this body butter on my blog lately so I'll keep it short. I like to use this to moisturize my arms and legs before bed, especially in the summer because of its citrus scent.

Bath & Body Works Sleep Aromatherapy
This is not a product I use every night, only when I'm having trouble getting to sleep. It's a lotion with a Lavender Chamomile scent that is supposed to help you fall asleep. The scent is so calming and I find rubbing it on my hands and taking a few deep breaths can really help me relax.

Nivea Lip Butter
This is a step I literally cannot miss before bed. If I don't have some kind of lip balm on my lips, I can't sleep. My favourite brand is Nivea because I find it really moisturizing, it smells good but has no taste. Perfect for bedtime.

Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Candle
Although not technically a beauty product, I love drifting off to sleep with the scent of this candle. This is one of my favourite scents from Bath & Body Works. I never light it because I feel beds and candles are a dangerous combination, but the candle is scented enough that it doesn't need to be lit.

What products do you keep on your nightstand?

Items You Need for an Easier Beauty Routine!

Most of my posts are focused on makeup or beauty products, but I thought I should show some love to the everyday items that make my beauty routine easier. These are pretty universal products as most are really easy/cheap to get a hold of.

Hair Bun Holder- I'll start with items I use to clean my brushes. It may seem strange, but a hair bun holder is your best friend when it comes to changing shades while using the same brush. With just a few swirls of your brush on the hair bun you can remove any power product from your brush. That way you can change the colour of your shadows while still using the same brush. It works like magic and as long as you're gentle (as you always should be when cleaning your brushes!) there's no damage to you brush. Plus a bun holder is very inexpensive.

Daily Brush Cleaner- When you want a better clean for your brush or if you have a brush you've been using for a cream product, you'll need something a little stronger. This is where a liquid spot cleaner is important. With just a spritz on your brush and some (gentle) rubbing on a cotton pad, your brush can look like new again. However it does take some time to dry which is why it's not ideal to use when applying your makeup. I use the Sephora Brand Daily Makeup Bush Cleaner.

Dove Soap- Finally, every few weeks your brushes need a deep clean. For this I love using Dove Baby Wash and Shampoo because it's super gentle on my brushes and it leaves them really clean. (Let me know if you would be interested in an entire post on how I clean my brushes).

Tweezers- There are so many uses for tweezers from plucking stray hairs to applying false lashes, tweezers are a must in anyone's beauty arsenal.

Cotton Buds- These are perfect for fixing any smudges and dipped in makeup remover they can remove mistakes and even help sharpen the edge of your fierce eyeliner flick.

Cotton Pads- From removing makeup, nail polish or cleaning brushes, I don't know how I would do my makeup without these cotton pads. My favourites are the Large Square Cotton Pads from Quo. They're soft but they don't fall apart on me.

Hair Clip- If you have long hair or bangs, a clip will help keep your hair out of your face when you're doing your makeup. With foundation especially, you want to blend into your hairline to make sure you avoid that pesky foundation line so I find clipping my hair back really helps with this.

Nothing I mentioned in this post was over $11 and everything should be fairly accessible. I hope this post has helped provide you with some ideas on how to make your makeup routine easier.
